چکیده

Context Although the uptake of Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships (LICs) is increasing worldwide, and there are documented benefits to participation, a lack conceptual evidence regarding how LICs exert many their benefits, including influence on recruitment retention practitioners underserved areas or specialties. Whilst career choice professional identity development have been previously connected within medicine, what known about ways in which remains unclear. A scoping review was conducted explore current knowledge map directions for future research. Method In 2020, authors searched nine bibliographic databases articles discussing context using systematic search strategy. Two reviewers independently screened all against eligibility criteria charted data. Eligible were analysed by quantitative qualitative thematic analysis. Results 849 identified following an extensive search. 131 selected full-text review, with 27 eligible inclusion. Over half originated from United States Canada, research most frequently explored sociocultural orientations. Qualitatively, four themes identified: (a) The importance contextual continuities; (b) Symbiotic relationship responsibility development; (c) Becoming competent carer; (d) Influence identity. Conclusions This adds weight supposition that participation facilitates development, namely through continuities students assume as they become co-providers patient care. There suggestions encourage ‘ethic caring’. As little compares comprehensive other clerkship models, it difficult say degree formation facilitated above beyond models. Future comparative research, exploring diverse theoretical perspectives would add depth.
